Just hours after voting against a bill to reopen the government, Fifth District Congressman Tom Garrett (R) visited Monticello.
He toured Thomas Jefferson's historic estate with ambassadors from two countries who look to the United States for guidance on how government should work.
"We're flawed and imperfect, but we have some things that are great," said Garrett.
While Garrett spoke with the Sudanese Consulate in Washington, D.C., and the government in the Czech Republic, even traveling to Sudan to speak with the Sudanese government regarding the release of Abduraheem and Abdumawla, it wasn't until Abduraheem and his family landed in the States that they and Garrett first met.
According to Rep. Tom Garrett, R-Va., the allegations contained in the Nunes memo—which he described as “fact-laden”—are what lawmakers should find disturbing, not the political party of those who wrote it.
Garrett encouraged students that while he did not want to tell them how to think, he wanted them to see their potential to change the world.
