Congressman Tom Garrett

Representing the 5th District of Virginia

Garrett Statement on the Retirement of Chairman Bob Goodlatte

November 9, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Nov. 9, 2017)—Congressman Tom Garrett (R-VA) issued the following statement on the retirement of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA):

“Working with Bob Goodlatte is an honor and a privilege. After more than two decades in Congress serving the people of the Sixth District, Bob has made an indelible mark not only on this institution, but to the Republican Party. During his tenure as Chairman of the Agriculture Committee, Bob worked tirelessly to reduce regulations on our farmers, and as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Bob has led the charge to end sanctuary cities and stop criminal illegal aliens from entering our country. His leadership, and integrity are to be commended. No person is bigger than the institution of Congress. While Bob Goodlatte could have undoubtedly been re-elected, he acknowledges this reality and will undoubtedly continue to serve in other ways as a citizen of our Commonwealth. My colleagues and I thank him for his service, and wish Bob, Maryellen and their family all the best in the years to come.”
