Congressman Garrett Announces Details for 2017 Congressional Art Competition
WASHINGTON, D.C. - This spring marks the 36th year of the Congressional Art Competition for high school students across the country. This competition is an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their artistic abilities and represent Virginia’s 5th Congressional District in our nation’s Capitol.
Congressman Garrett’s competition is open to all high school students who live in the 5th Congressional District. Entries will be judged by our Congressional Art Competition Advisory Committee which is comprised of artists, art professors, photographers and others. The overall winner’s artwork will be displayed for one year in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol, among the other nationwide contest winners. The winner will also be invited to a reception in Washington, D.C. this summer.
All entries must be two-dimensional; original in concept, design, execution; and must not violate U.S. copyright laws. Artwork submitted cannot be larger than 26 x 26 x 4 and weigh less than 15 pounds, once framed. Paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art and photography are all acceptable mediums.
“I encourage all high school students who live in the 5th Congressional District to participate in this wonderful opportunity for a chance to have their work displayed for thousands of visitors at the U. S. Capitol,” said Congressman Garrett. “I look forward to seeing all entries and sharing the amazing artwork with our Congressional Art Competition Advisory Committee for judging,” Garrett continued.
