Congressman Tom Garrett

Representing the 5th District of Virginia

Congressional Town Hall Highlighted Mix of Ideas, Opinions

April 3, 2017
Press Release

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - On Friday night, 5th District Congressman Tom Garrett held an in-person Town Hall at UVA's Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy.  This was his fourteenth in person forum with constituents and seventeenth overall since taking office 3 months ago.

After listening to the needs of all constituents, Garrett worked with the University of Virginia to provide the safest and most welcoming town hall possible.  Democrats and Republicans alike hailed the event as welcoming, open, and mostly devoid of the vitriol so prevalent at similar events in recent weeks.

"I commend the University and the Batten School for working so hard to create an outlet for a civil exchange of ideas at a time where we are experiencing a very charged political climate. It is very encouraging to see so many concerned citizens show up in the rain to make their voices heard and I was especially happy to see such an even balance of constituents inside and outside Garrett Hall. In the months to come, I look forward to holding several more town halls throughout the district, on the radio, and online."

Garrett's next radio town hall is scheduled for April 13 from 7-9 pm with Joe Thomas on WCHV 107.5 and in person on May 9 in Moneta, Virginia.
