5th District Congressman Announces Details for Congressional App Challenge
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today Congressman Tom Garrett (VA-05) released the following statement regarding this week's launch of the third annual Congressional App Challenge:
"Virginia's Fifth Congressional District has some of the brightest minds occupying our schools and colleges that the Commonwealth and country have to offer. Initiatives in STEM fields fuel job creation and serve as the future of the American workforce and as such, hands on practice for our young folks is vital to their success. As a freshman, this is my first opportunity to oversee the app challenge for the 5th District and I look forward to seeing our technology-minded students shine through this experience!"
Background on the Congressional App Challenge: This competition was created in an effort to encourage children and students to learn how to code across the country. Students throughout the various school districts in the U.S. submit their app and their Member of Congress will select the best submission for recognition in the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. It is coordinated between both the Congressional Internet Caucus and the Internet Education Foundation.
